Abdio Audio Video Converter is actually a versatile audio extraction tool. It supports a wide variety of both video (for input files) and audio formats (for output files), and it allows you to customize some of the main output settings, such as the sample rate, the audio encoder to use, the volume, or the number of audio channels. Some other settings look pretty useless to me – aspect ratio, video bit rate, or frame size do not seem to be of much use when no output video will be produced.
The formats supported include the usual suspects - FLV, AVI, ASF, MOV, 3GP, MP4, MPEG, etc., for the input video, and MP3, AC3, ACC, MP2, Ogg, WMA, and WAV for the audio track. Besides, this program offers some fairly creative audio extractions, such as the possibility of extracting the audio from PNG, JPEG, or GIF files, and save it into any of the audio formats listed above! I believe they just got a bit carried away when trying to list all possible audio extractions. (The confusing list even includes some audio-to-audio combinations.)
Leaving aside these format-to-format inaccuracies, the audio extractions that Abdio Audio Video Converter performs, are fast and precise. The default output quality is of a high standard, and you can always use the available settings to make it better fit your own needs. Its batch extraction capabilities will let you select and mix videos in different formats, and create audio files in one of the output formats supported. The trial version is heavily limited when it comes to the number of formats you can use and the amount of time granted for unregistered use.
